v 0.1.8 RC2 Feedback Thread

14 years 2 months ago #302 by rjspence
With 0.1.8 RC2 released today, we have exciting new integrations implemented through the Joomla Framework.

Groups (Thanks to Flotsam), are now fully integrated and work well. We now have mail forwarding for offline IM\'s, working profiles, and more. Within the Joomla admin, you now have the ability to enable or disable groups, profiles, and IM message forwarding for maintenance needs. Within the Joomla front-end, you can now edit your in-world opensim profile, read your offline messages, view your group information, or leave the group!

If you have some feedback for this release, feel free to post it here. It\'s a pretty exciting release. Up next, we hope for a working search integration as well as additional front and back-end management function, especially for the management of groups.

Thank you,
rjspence

Might as well I start with a feedback myself ...

The mail forwarding for offline messages is a nice tool, but it still needs some improvements. Currently, you will get a seperate email for each line, someone types in IM while you\'re offline. This could cause unwanted but real im2mail spamming and it would be much better, if all those lines from one session are together in one single email.

This sounds like an easy issue, but is quite hard to be done: how shall the component know, that the first line is not the last one and there are more to come? What should trigger the component that the session is now finished and everything should be packed into one single email? Of course we could talk now about crontabs (Linux) or schedules (Win) but this would be against the \"simple installing\" philosophy of jOpenSim.

Thinking of this, it looks to me as if creating a special \"jOpenSim\"-module for OpenSim is the only solution. That module could e.g. send some xmlrpc request to Joomla when a person goes offline. This would be the ideal trigger for sending any stored IM\'s. Again, here is the problem of my missing C# skills ...
