I tried to keep the forum opened to post for everyone (even without registration) as long as possible. Recently there was some russian comedian posting some \"maybe interesting\" but definately offtopic links. So I\'m forced now to limit postings to registered users only

This is sad since I would apprechiate postings also from users who have just one single idea or comment and do not feel like registering just for that. Those will probably never post here but I do not know any other way how to prevent these spam postings :x :x

Thanks for your understanding and hopefully one or the other still will register to let me know their feedback.

You have notement security image that can be integrated by simply changing a few lines of code.
Otherwise Kunena is a very good solution. 1.6RC version just released but is not fully compatible. Then the version 1.5.12 is very good and included a direct captcha for unregistered users.
You also Agora forum which is great for joomla but I do not use it, I remain faithful to Kunena ex Fireboard.
In any case they are several anti-spam solutions for joomla ...
You can also use JFusion that allows you to create a bridge between Joomla and another system ... ex phpbb, vbulletin, smf, etc. ...
Personally when I spam, I activate the captcha some time then I disable until the next visit of spam ...

This forum is a standalone phpBB that I installed before I setup a demo joomla (yeah, shame on me ;) ;) ) and now I think I just let it go as it is and not convert it to a built in joomla forum. Too much to do and so little time ....
